A Sign

I received the following phone call:

Hi Rav Amichai. My name is E from Kfar Adumim. I am forty-six years old and the father of five children. I got a pair of tefillin for my bar mitzvah, however for many years I have not put them on. I had a strong desire to begin using them again, but each time I wanted to it didn’t happen for different reasons. I asked myself why I am not returning to putting on tefillin and decided to turn God saying: “If You want me to begin putting on tefillin again, send me a sign!”

The very next day I met a friend from a long time ago. “Wow E! How are you? Just last night I had a dream about you! I dreamt that the two of us went to, put on tefillin and prayed together!” It’s important for you to know, explained E emotionally, there is no logical explanation for this. We’re talking about a former friend with whom I have no contact, definitely not someone who would dream about me! I said to myself: “You asked for a sign? You got one!”

Within a few days I met E in Jerusalem and gave him a mehudar set of tefillin. E has taken upon himself of the mitzvah of putting on tefillin daily
